I bought the book 'ExtendingFlash MX 2004' by Keith Peters and Todd Yard. I have found it very helpful. The Flash dom has changed but the principles remain the same. This book gets into JSFL, Flash panels, xml to ui etc.

I have created a new JSFL script which should allow for exporting of SWFs from a layered FLA. To be safe I recommend to backup and save your document before running this script. http://code.google.com/p/lostinactionscript/source/browse/trunk/jsfl/Export%20Layers%20With%20Timelines.jsfl

Hi Shane
I'm a character animator/illustrator so basically JSFL is like ancient hieroglyphs to me. If you get a free moment do you mind telling me more specifically how to do this. It would be a huge time saver and you'd be helping an independent animation for kids about baking delicious foods.

Yup I think that would certainly be possible to do. Though you would need to change the script to loop through all layers (like currently) then delete all layers others except the one you wish to publish then revert the document to finish the process.

Let me know if you get really stuck trying to do this.

I second jason's request. I've got 50-100 layers i'm exporting as swf's into After Effects. Most of them need to be loops. Everything works, but all of the created swfs have the same length (whatever the longest layer is) leaving a bunch of empty frames on most swfs. Is there a way to modify the script to get rid of empty frames on each layer?
